 Quote[]

"What's in a rape kit? Like, a gag and chloroform?"

Summary[]

A murderer has to lead cops to his murder victims as part of a negotiated plea, but he keeps negotiating the terms.

Cold Open[]

Dangle is chasing a perp but loses sight of him and asks the chopper overhead for guidance. After insulting him one too many times, the cop on the radio has him charge a gate and fall into an empty swimming pool.

Plot[]

Morning briefing is held in Captain Crabby's seafood restaurant while the station is cleaned out of asbestos, which comprises about 80-85% of the infrastructure. They did each get $71 as a settlement. Dangle notes that the new rape kits are in metric, which is why they were confused, and they've been told to just be patient with the new Chinese ammunition and just shake it out of the gun if it doesn't go off. Also, never put the ammunition in your mouth. (Trudy apologizes that the company had to issue that statement.)

Bernie, the manager of Crabby's, asks them to please lower the volume and watch the language.

Rizzo and Wiegel chase a perp who flees in a vehicle. Commandeering an open-top tourist bus, they proceed to have a high-speed chase through Reno, while the tour guide gamely tells the Japanese tourists about the sights and the city between the hail of gunfire.

Declan and Rizzo have a profanity-laden "you're an out of control cop, give me your badge and gun" argument in the middle of the seafood restaurant.

Middle School: Declan and Junior are guests. In a discussion of good touch/bad touch, they use a stuffed Miss Ladybug. Unfortunately, it won't stop crying "rape!". Junior finally stabs it angrily and then throws it in the microwave to get it to stop. The Principal says, "Well...remind me to never get raped!"

Terry: At the little league field, Terry denies that he's put up flyers advertising that he's giving blow jobs under the bleachers.

Without a jail, Wiegel is trying to convince a blind convict that he's still in a jail cell and not in a seafood restaurant. She, Junior and Declan improv jail sounds, apparently believing they're in the deep south and a century back in time.

Mass murdering psychopath Calvin Robin Tomlinson is taken into police custody so that he can lead them to the body of his last victim in exchange for a reduced sentence. Tomlinson dominates Dangle and Williams by making demands and always threatening to call off the deal, negotiating "shotgun", a slushee, Dangle holding the slushee, Dangle letting him "deep throat" his pinky, watching the entire movie Cold Mountain with director's commentary, and one short Pilates lesson. Finally leading them to a vacant lot, they dig up a crate which he suggests has a bomb in it. They order him to open it instead. He does, revealing a gun and a scooter for making a getaway. He orders Dangle to dig a handcuff key out of his rectum, and then he escapes. Dangle realizes that he has his own handcuff keys.

PSA[]

Senior Abuse: Dangle, playing a drug-mad teen, abuses his grandpa. The green screen and editing are particularly inept.

Behind the Scenes[]

Thomas Lennon and Niecy Nash provide commentary on the DVD. Among the observations:

  • Niecy's fake booty cost $25,000 and was totally worth it. Dangle gives a spoiler alert to "the brothers" because when they find out her booty is fake it's like telling them "there's no Christmas." She replies it's bad when people meet her in person and their eyes go down and see the butt isn't there and she watches the disappointment in their faces.
  • The second fake booty was only $5000 because they already had the mold.
  • Niecy wore the prosthetic butt to the Reno 911: Miami premiere and it caused a controversy (though why is not explained).
  • Rainn Wilson's clown group was on Lennon's earlier show, Viva Variety.
  • The local California Highway Patrol were a little grumpy with the producers that the high-speed chase scene was so high speed in residential neighborhoods.
  • Rainn's entire guest shot was done in a few hours.
  • Ian lost 40 pounds after the season was over. Lennon talks about his needing to put it back on for Season 7. It is unclear whether Lennon thought there would be a Season 7 at the time.
  • Neither Lennon nor Nash had seen Cold Mountain. They try texting Rainn Wilson to see if he had ever seen it either.
  • The one time Standards and Practices really drew a line in the sand with them was a scene during the Miss Ladybug scene. After the antics that were broadcast, Declan goes on a very hilarious but dark tirade about how if you claim to be raped they'll put you on trial too because sometimes you're just trying to take someone down, and they didn't want to send the message that if you claim to be raped they won't believe you.
  • Garant said in the previous commentary that this was the first year the deputies discovered green screen and are so terrible at it. (Green screen has been in the previous years' PSAs but not really exploited beyond a static background.) He referred to the PSA in this episode where Junior is fake walking over a bad background that eventually does move but not at all in synch with his movement. Also, Dangle fake strangles his grandfather, unaware that his empty hands are in the shot.
  • The buried electric scooter went slow because it had been buried with a full electric charge but that died out during the day.

Notes[]

  • Rizzo speaks Japanese and claims to have bowled a perfect game (300).
  • How does a scooter buried for 8+ years still work? Perhaps a compatriot buried it recently? Although, as noted above, the scooter can't hold its charge even a day.
  • "Oh shit. I have handcuff keys on me" was runner-up for featured quote.
